Dell Streak Unboxing

Dell’s Streak was released today in Carphone Warehouse and O2 stores, with prices starting from free on £25 per month contracts. Here is a brief unboxing of our demo unit. Apologies for the quality of the pictures, they were taken with an iPhone and a Blackberry 8900
First Impressions
Before the streak came out, I wasn’t sure what to make of it. It seemed too small to be a decent tablet computer, yet too big to be a phone. Since playing with it, I’ve really grown to like it. Images and video display beautifully on the screen, and HD playback is smooth too.
While the 5 megapixel camera isn’t the biggest or best I have seen on a phone, the pictures look good on the 5 inch screen. Video recording is in 640 x 480 – not HD, but it’s still gorgeous.
On first sight, the Streak looks pretty sizeable compared to most phones out at the moment. While it might feel big when you hold it up to your face to talk, it actually fits snugly in the front pockets of my trousers. It’s slim size – slightly thinner than the iPhone – makes up for it’s width and length. The micro fibre case it comes with is a nice touch too, as it cleans fingerprints from the phone as you take it out.
Overall, the Streak is a nice looking and even better performing phone. It’s size makes it perfect for multimedia, and while it is only running Android 1.6, an upgrade to 2.x is in the works. Definitely a great alternative to an iPhone, but I’ll be waiting until monday to see what WWDC brings us.
